Problems faced by young girls in the society
  • Early marriages: Girls as young as 15 can be married with parental consent, while boys can marry at 18 or below.
  • Early pregnancies: Ukerewe has one of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates, particularly among girls aged 15 to 19.
  • Domestic violence: Nearly half of women aged 15 to 49 experience physical violence, and many also suffer sexual violence.
  • Rape: Rape of women and children remains a critical health and human rights issue in Tanzania.
  • Unsafe menstruation: Period taboos label menstruating women as impure, dirty, or sinful, affecting hygiene and dignity.
  • Cultural barriers: Traditional and cultural deterioration hinders women and girls from accessing technology and opportunities.
