About Mugeta Academy

The Mugeta Sports Academy (MSA) is a non-profit organisation based on the island of Ukerewe, MSA, dedicated to improving educational and sports opportunities for young people on the island. The youth on the island is faced with many hardships, such as child abuse, lack of contact with their dreams and careers, educational difficulties and motivation, etc. Many of them do not have a chance to reach the required level of education. They are also confronted with other challenges such as homelessness, drug abuse and lack of hope and motivation. There are not enough facilities and opportunities for these children to live a better life.

About Mugeta Academy

The Mugeta Sports Academy (MSA) helps young people by recognising and promoting their athletic talents while supporting them in their school career. The focus is on conveying values for a healthy life and solidarity. MSA makes a valuable contribution to the integration of young people and accompanies them on their way to adulthood. MSA was founded for young people who want to change their lives positively.

We support children and young people between the ages of 4 and 20 by offering them more activities such as football training, educational training, and physical and social skills. We know how important it is to convey values and support to young people during this phase of life.

How was it started

How Mugeta Started

The academy was started in 2016 with only 70 kids and one coach, who also works as a teacher. The U19 were 29, the U16 were 16, the U14 were 15 and U12 were 10 kids. The academy was later noticed by many after the "Mbunge Cup" which was prepared by the Parliament Representative in 2018. The MSA U19 team became the second winner in that tournament.

After that, the academy received four kids from outside the Island, who are being raised by the mother of the founder of the Academy.

The number of kids rose radically from the earliest number of 70 kids to 280 kids in the present. We then have 5 teachers (Coaches), one of them is the Goalkeepers Coach.

With MSA motto “RIGHT FOR YOUR Dream” the Academy once had three kids in the Kinondoni Municipal Football Club (KMC) and Mbao FC which is in the NBC Premier League in Tanzania. We then had one kid who was selected to join other players in Taifa Stars, the Tanzanian National Team in 2019 and another kid who went for trial to U17 and U14 Tanzanian National Team in 2018.
